Leveraging sustainability as a tool for innovation: design-directed investigations into the ecology of food distribution

SPEAKER | Mick Abbott

Abstract

Mick Abbott will explore how various sustainability frameworks can be applied to complex contexts as a means of identifying opportunities for innovation. He will present part of recent research undertaken in the airline industry including a detailed waste audit of inflight catering-related waste.

About the Speaker

Mick is programme director for the University of Otago's Master of Design Programme, and a senior lecturer in the Department of Design Studies. As well as work in the airline industry Mick is currently involved in a number of research projects with the Department of Conservation and others. He is co-editor (with Janet Stephenson and Jacinta Ruru) of the recently released Beyond the Scene: Landscape and Identity in Aotearoa New Zealand.
