Welcome to the Centre for Sustainability, an interdisciplinary research centre at the University of Otago.
Our research teams draw from social and environmental sciences to address local and global sustainability challenges. We collaborate with communities, iwi, farmers, companies, government agencies and many others. Our intent is to inform choices, adaptations and transformations through research that is relevant to both policy and practice.
The Centre's research includes agricultural sustainability, indigenous environmental management, energy transitions and societal responses to climate change.
The Centre for Sustainability is based in the Geography Department within the Division of Humanities.
Our interdisciplinary teams include researchers from a wide range of specialties within the University of Otago, as well as other universities and research agencies in New Zealand and internationally.
We host postgraduate students, interns and international visitors. Our goals and objectives are outlined in our Strategic Plan.
