Dr Marion Johnson is completing a post doctoral fellowship in which she is evaluating the anthelminthic and nutritional values of a number of indigenous plants. She is searching for ways to encourage farmers to plant native species so that multiple benefits can be achieved across the farm system as a whole. Marions’ background is in farm management coupled with degrees in agriculture and environmental biology. Her masters, in Veterinary Parasitology, was undertaken at Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine and her PhD (Otago) incorporated a range of studies on lungworm infection in red deer.
Her research interests centre on the development of sustainable agricultural systems, with an emphasis on increasing biodiversity whilst maintaining viability. Other interests include ethnoveterinary practices ethnopharmacology, zoopharmocognosy and animal health.
