Linda Marie Bye is a visiting researcher from the Department of Geography, Norwegian University of Science and Technology. During her nine month stay at CSAFE she’s writing a doctoral thesis titled “Young rural men: constructing and negotiating rural masculinities”. The aim of her study is to investigate how young rural men shape, and are shaped by normative codes of rural masculinity and place, and in turn how men negotiate hegemonic understandings of rural masculinity. The research project focus on the life experiences of a group of men who have grown up in and who have settled in a farm-based community in Mid-Norway.
