Leah Rothbaum comes to CSAFE with a background in environmental studies/design and land use planning (Masters in Urban and Regional Planning, University of Hawaii). Her past research has focused on comprehensive growth management planning strategies for agricultural lands at the urban fringe in Up Country Maui. Leah is interested in exploring the social, environmental and economic factors contributing to the trend of land use changes from agricultural to urban use. She brings with her a passion for maintaining productive rural landscapes in the face of mounting urban development pressures. Leah hopes to explore a combination of incentive-based and regulatory farmland protection techniques while in New Zealand.
