Daniela Serra is a PhD candidate in Environmental Anthropology at Otago University. Daniela started work on her PhD in 2007 and before coming to New Zealand she worked for a year implementing Renewal Energies in a project funded by The Swedish Society for Nature Conservation and then for two years working in the Ministry of Planning in Chile in charge of childhood and indigenous studies. Her thesis concerns the collection of a description of the Huilliches indigenous communities and of Artisanal Fishers specific visions, values, interests and expectations of a Marine and Coastal Protected Area in Chile. She believes that the emerging forms of Maori initiated and led regulation of marine resources in New Zealand offers a positive model for her work in Chile. Daniela has a background in Social Anthropology, with a special interest in environmental anthropology and in promoting transdisciplinary approaches to the examination of ecological issues. Daniela’s research is supervised by Hugh Campbell, Chris Rosin and Jim Williams.
