Household energy habits ? analysing rationalisations for energy behaviour

This summer project will be aligned with the Energy Cultures research programme. Energy Cultures is examining household energy behaviours and involves academics from a variety of disciplinary backgrounds including marketing, economics, law, human geography, physics and engineering, as well as a number of postgraduates (masters and PhDs). The summer scholarship would suit someone who enjoys teamwork, who likes the thought of working in an interdisciplinary environment, and is highly self-motivated.

The summer project involves analysing data from interviews carried out in Spring 2012, designed to elicit participant feedback on a community centered behaviour change intervention. A series of community energy evenings were held in Brockville from July to October 2012, and after each event participants were given the chance to provide feedback on their immediate perceptions of the event. There are also longer interviews with key stakeholders in the community about the intervention process, as well as data from focus groups conducted after the end of the community events. The work will involved conducting an exploratory analysis of the data sets.

The position will suit a person with a social science background, skills in qualitative analysis, and preferably in the use of the NVivo software package (we can offer NVivo training if necessary). No prior knowledge of household energy behavior is needed.

This is a $5,000 Summer Bursary that covers a 10 week period. The closing date for this award is Friday 26 October.

Please contact Dr Rebecca Ford ph for further information.

Te Waihora project

We have the opportunity for a summer student to work with the Te Waihora management group and the Indigenous Agroecology team.

Te Waihora ( Lake Ellesmere) has been the focus of many research studies, but the results have been published in numerous locations. We would like the student to develop a bibliography of research on Te Waihora that can be accessed by both teams to inform their research. The applicant could be based at either the Centre for Sustainability or at Wigram with Ngai Tahu, support will be provided by both groups and there will be the opportunity to visit Te Waihora and be involved in current research programmes.

This is a $5,000 Summer Bursary that covers a 10 week period.

Please contact Dr Marion Johnson for further information.
