About the Authors

HILARY TOVEY

Hilary Tovey is a Fellow of Trinity College Dublin and senior lecturer in the Department of Sociology. Her research interests intersect agriculture, food, environment, and rural civil society, with a particular interest in alternative food movements. Recent publications include Europe's Green Ring (ed, with Leo Granberg, Imre Kovach); Food, Nature and Society (ed, with Michel Blanc); A Sociology of Ireland (with Perry Share).

 

MARIA FONTE

Maria Fonte is an associate professor of Agricultural Economics at the University of Naples “Federico II”, Italy. She has also taught Rural Sociology at the University of Naples. Her research interests are related to agriculture, the political economy of food, agrobiotechnology, and rural development.

 

CLARA CRAVIOTTI

Clara Craviotti is a sociologist and researcher (CONICET) at the Centro de Estudios de Sociología del Trabajo, Universidad de Buenos Aires. She has published research work on pluriactivity, Pampas agrarian structure and social actors in the sugar industry. Her current research interests include pluriactivity and new rurality.

 

JOSÉ GRAZIANO DA SILVA

José Graziano da Silva is a senior professor of agricultural economics at the Institute of Economics of the State University of Campinas –UNICAMP. He is a research fellow of the CNPq (Brazilian National Research Council) and coordinator of the Rurban Project (www.eco.unicamp.br/projetos). His main research fields are: political economy of agrarian question; rural development and Intersectorial linkages; and agricultural modernization and rural employment.

 

MANUEL BELO MOREIRA

Manuel Belo Moreira is a full Professor in the Department of Agrarian Economics and Rural Sociology at the Instituto Superior de Agronomia, Technical University of Lisbon. His research interests are: globalisation, agrarian policies, rural development and co-operation.
